Russell joined the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office in January of 2007 as a Detention Deputy.  In October 2007, Russell was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and was assigned to the Adult Detention Division.  Russell was transferred to the Court Security Unit in February 2010.

Russell graduated from Park Center High School in 1998.  Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, Russell did a variety of odd jobs, some of which were working in a bookstore, a couple coffee shops, and as a data entry specialist.  Russell took some classes at Saint Cloud State University (SCSU) and eventually received an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement from North Hennepin Community College in 2006.

In 2000, Russell enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer with the 34th MP Company.  Russell was in the Army National Guard for approximately eight years, during which he was activated for a deployment to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2003-2004.

Russell and his wife, Trista, have been married since 2004 and have one beautiful little girl, Lorelei.

Russell was elected as a Steward of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputies Association in November 2010.
